By the early hours of September 6, 2014 the rain over Atanasovsko lake lashed down in torrents with the record 101 liters per day. Huge amounts of rainfall fallen over the whole region of Burgas as well.
Water levels in Atanasovsko lake has risen with at least 10 cm and sadly that heavy rain will reduce the already low yields of salt this year.
The impact of higher water level on birds is negligible at this point, only a small waders have to look for shallow water near the coast.
During the last days the situation in the lake is normalized and workers continue to draw salt in northern Atanasovsko lake. Cleaning the drainage canal, which is performed within the project “Salt of life” continues to be very important and will guarantee flood prevention in the future.
